U.S. House Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C. District 11) has officially called on Vice President Kamala Harris and the rest of the U.S. Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Joe Biden from office.
Cawthorn tweeted at 8:36 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, that he had formally requested the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment.
“Joe Biden does not simply have a pattern of poor decision-making, his mental decline is on full display,” Cawthorn’s tweet read. “We must not allow this mentally unstable individual to direct our country one second longer.”
The 25th Amendment allows a majority of the Cabinet to remove a president who is “unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”
In a video statement shared to Cawthorn’s Twitter page Friday morning, Aug. 27, Cawthorn spoke for just under three minutes on why he decided to write letters to each cabinet member, called on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to call Congress back into session and why he thinks Biden is “not mentally fit to serve as president of these United States.”

“In times of trial and hardship when it seems our government has failed us, we turn to our leaders for answers. We demand accountability because that’s innately American. Inaction and indecision has defined our politics for far too long. The hallmark reaction of far too many leaders today has been to roll over, to surrender, to do nothing. Those days are over. This is not a time for impassioned speeches followed by no action.
