Fox 5 Atlanta reports that police are investigating a possible explosion:
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said an explosion damaged a controversial northeast Georgia landmark.
The Georgia Guidestones, a granite attraction in Elbert County, are located off of Guidestone Road just east of Ga. Highway 77. Elberton Granite Association Executive VP Chris Kubas said drone footage showed the monument was significantly damaged.
Investigators said unknown people detonated an explosive device at around 4 a.m. Elbert County investigators arrived and noted a large portion of the structure.
Authorities are investigating after an apparent explosion at the Georgia Guidestones, which sit on a site 7 miles north of Elberton on Georgia Highway 77 and are often referred to as an American Stonehenge. https://t.co/0IoelA1gQFpic.twitter.com/t0fA1QmG1c
